The gameplay trailer for the major update is available just below, and it shows off all of the stuff players can do once they band together, clear away the rubble, and get a nice guild castle all set up and looking good.

Strongholds are an involved process for guilds that involve quests and projects to claim land, clear away obstacles, improve resource-gathering structures, and so forth. With the castle finished, players can also engage in large-scale 20v20 conflicts with other similarly progressed guilds. But you don’t need to read about it; you can just hop down below and see it in action for yourself.

Diablo 3 says goodbye—and good riddance—to the Auction House

Posted by on Jul 1, 2015 in news

We wrote back in September that Blizzard announced it would be removing Diablo 3’s auction houses, both gold and real money, and that day has come to pass. The Auction House is no more.

Blizzard has posed a FAQ on its forums to answer some questions about the shutdown specifics. Auctions currently in progress will expire as normal and the items will go to the highest bidder (or be returned to the seller, depending on the auction). Folks have until June 24 to clear out all of the items and gold in their “Completed” tab, after which time they’ll all vanish forever.

On paper, the Auction House sounded like a great idea: it provided a relatively secure way for Diablo 3 players to dispose of unwanted loot and make some coin at the same time—much more coin than the tiny amounts offered by the in-game merchants. However, the Auction House quickly became a required meta-game that any character wanting any kind of meaningful gear had to play. Blizzard had to adjust the rates at which valuable items spawned in-game to keep item-farmers from flooding the Auction House. This made it more difficult not just for the farmers to find good loot, but for everyone to find good loot. The end result was that the Auction House became the only way to find truly useful items for every character once they’d hit the level 60 in-game cap.

The removal of the Auction House isn’t the only big change to Diablo 3’s gameplay. In preparation for the Reaper of Souls expansion pack’s upcoming debut (next week, in fact!), Blizzard also released “Loot 2.0” in February, a major patch that significantly changed how the game’s loot system functions. With the auction house sunsetting, Loot 2.0 greatly increases the rate at which powerful items are generated for the player to pick up (orange legendaries and green set items). It also makes it so that items the player finds are much more likely to be relevant to the player’s current character—your Demon Hunter might still find the occasional Witch Doctor charm, but for the most part, the items will have stats specifically targeted at your class.
Enlarge / Want to trade that sweet set crossbow you found? Too bad—it’s account-bound now. All legendaries and set items will be like this from now on.
Another change with the updated loot system is that all legendary items and all set items are now bound to your account when you pick them up—they can’t be traded to other players except under very specific circumstances and within a narrow window of time (though they can be sold to the in-game vendors or broken down for crafting components). Initially Blizzard developers were adamant that account-bound items wouldn’t be coming to the game, but as Diablo 3 has evolved over the years it’s become clear that making it a game focused on item trading had significant negative impacts on the core gameplay. Anything that pulls the focus too far away from kill-monsters-get-loot is ultimately bad.

And so we bid a farewell to the game-breaking Auction House—judging by community and forum posts, it won’t be missed. From here on, players can still trade with each other directly in-game using the trade window, but there will be no more easily gamed central clearing house for loot and gold. We’ll have more on Diablo 3 and after the Reaper of Souls expansion release next week.

Strategy game from former Diablo 3 developers

Posted by on May 14, 2015 in news

The goal of each match is for players to defeat the general of the other person’s squad. The general sits on the game board, much like the King does in a game of chess. Players bring a squad of 30 units and spells into each match and, of those 30, only six will be randomly shown in any given time. It costs many to summon units and spells onto the game board, as well as to move and attack, so players need to be strategic when deciding who or what will be in their squad, and in which order they summon units to the game board. Every unit and spell have diablo 3 gold different abilities and, like chess, some have specific movement patterns that players will have to take into account.

“It’s all about you protecting your general,” Lee said. “But your general is also very strong, so if you bring him up close to the enemy, you could deploy your units in an advantageous way, but you might also expose him to more danger. So it’s a balance of where you want to place your units and what you want to do with them.”

Some units have long-range abilities while others can only attack in close-range. Some units cost very little manna to deploy, but are likely to be weaker than those that cost more manna. Every map also has unique environments that will encourage players to use different approaches and, according to Lee, players will have the opportunity to dive into the game’s meta strategy.

Six stadiums to miss Fifa deadline

Posted by on Jan 9, 2015 in news

Brazil has admitted all its stadiums still under construction for the 2014 football World Cup will not be ready by Fifa original 31 December deadline.

Sports Minister Aldo Rebelo said the six venues in Sao Paulo, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Cuiaba, Manaus and Natal would be finished in January. But now Brazil sports minister has admitted that all six will not be finished by the end of December.

Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Rebelo said: “There are delays but they will not be significant. What matters is that we are ready to go in January.”

He said some of the stadiums would be handed over after 31 December because of problems accommodating a busy Christmas schedule of engagements of President Dilma Rousseff, who wanted to be present at the opening ceremonies.

And Mr Rebelo compared the World Cup preparations to organising a wedding.

“In every wedding that I attended the bride was late. I never seen a bride arrive on time but never saw a marriage that didn go ahead.”

But he stressed that all Brazil stadiums would be ready for test events early next year.

Brazil other six stadiums were opened ahead of last June Confederations Cup.

From the Guardian (the fiver. but still real quotes):

24 April 2010: “I strongly feel that the World Cup should come to Qatar. I a regular visitor to Qatar and every time I land here I am impressed by all the development” Sepp Blatter backs Steaming Hot Qatar bid for the 2022 World Cup.

3 December 2010: “We go to new lands the Middle East and Arabic world have been waiting for a long time, so I a happy president ” Sepp Blatter enthusiastically greets the news that Steaming Hot Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup.

13 December 2010: “This is development of football and don speak about money. It is the development of the game. We have to take it to places where it can improve and have a social and cultural impact” Sepp Blatter continues to bang the drum for Steaming Hot Qatar 2022.

9 September 2013: “I think it is high time that Europe starts to understand that we do not rule the world anymore and that some former European imperial powers can no longer impress their will on to others in faraway places and we must accept that football has moved away from being a European and South American sport. It has become the world sport that billions of fans are excitedly following every week, everywhere in the world” Sepp Blatter tells concerned Europeans where to stick their criticism of the reality of hosting the 2022 World Cup in Steaming Hot Qatar.

16 May 2014: “Of course, it was a mistake. You know, one makes a lot of mistakes in life. The technical report indicated clearly that it was too hot in summer, but despite that the executive committee decided with quite a big majority that the tournament would be in Qatar” Oh Sepp!

I was deployed there last year. A few buds went off base on a short trip, and they come across a bunch of guys wearing the fancy white robes and shit just standing in the middle of the road. Well, they don get out of the way, so the driver slows down. They immediately surround the vehicle and one of them yanks the van door open and jumps in, and now the driver doesn give a shit and just hits the gas, nearly killing 2 of them. The one guy is still halfway in the vehicle getting kicked in the face pretty fucking hard by the soldier in the back seat. The door falls off of the van, the dude screams as he about to fall, driver slows down so he can fall gently, and they take off without a door.

All I saying is yeah, with shit like that going down all the time, and with the cops defending them because hey, they all Qatari, it was a huge mistake to give them the world cup.

Qatar is nothing but spoiled, legally immune citizens who hire/sponsor foreigners in the most oppressive ways to do their work for them. The buildings look pretty, but it not rare to see some major skyscraper on fire because they hire a contractor to build it, and that contractor hires a shit contractor to build it, and that shit contractor hires a literal piece of shit to build it, and they all take a cut. Imagine what the stadium is going to be like.
